UPDATES IN GEOPOLITICS



  1. Last week (July 5-11), once again the most popular international politicians among Internet users in Poland were Polish President Andrzej Duda and Russian President Wladimir Putin.

  2. President Duda aroused a lot of comments in the context of the safety of Poles in various dimensions, including economic and military ones. Peak on July 11 due to National Day of Remembrance of Victims of Genocide perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists. President Duda was praised for paying tribute to the victims of the Volhynia massacre. Also, there was a lot of favorable content regarding the meeting with the President of Lithuania on the Suwalki Isthmus. On July 11, increase of popularity amongst Internet users in Poland due to PM Morawiecki’s comments in the context of the Volhynia massacre (narrative ‘Putin is the heir of OUN/UPA).

Also, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been widely discussed on July 11 mainly due to the presence of the Ukrainian Ambassador at the ceremonies commemorating the victims of the Volhynia massacre (narratives ‘Ukraine pays tribute to the victims of the Volhynia massacre’ , ‘Ukrainians grateful for the help of Poles’). On the other hand, Zelenskyy was criticized for lack of direct condemnation of the Volhynia massacre.
